Nigerian Singer, Tems, has won the Best International Act award at the BET Awards ceremony 2022.
The BET Awards 2022 took place yesterday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The award ceremony is organized annually by Black Entertainment Television(BET) to celebrate people of color who are making great contributions in music, sports and other fields of entertainment.
The awards ceremony was markedly filled with many firsts as Fireboy DML emerged the first afrobeat artist to perform at the BET stage.
Tems also created her own history by becoming the first female Nigerian afrobeats artist to win Best International Act at the BET Awards.
The Nigerian singer beat other nominees including Fireboy, Dave from the UK, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France.

Tems noted in her speech while receiving the award that it was also her first time receiving something at an award show. She directed her speech towards women urging them to work hard and continue on their chosen paths.
“Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen”
