Pastors join the fight for the 2023 Presidential seat as they purchase APC nomination forms for the Presidential election, estimated to be worth N100m each.
These Nigerian pastors include UK-based Pastor Nicholas Felix Nwagbo of Miracle Church International, and his colleague Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church. Pastor Tunde was first to declare his intentions of running for the seat as he picked up his form on Thursday, May 5th.
Pastor Tunde Bakare was a former Vice-Presidential candidate for Muhammadu Buhari during the 2011 elections. Now in 2023, he has made his intentions of running for President known in a statement :
“Having been privileged to serve Nigeria in various nation-building capacities, I intend to take a step further in the service of our beloved country and of you, her worthy citizen, by running for the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Shortly after, another Pastor, Nicholas Felix Nwagbo, declared his interest in running for President after picking up his Expression of Interest and Nomination Form in Abuja.
While many people support the idea of pastors getting involved in political affairs, others believe their actions are a mere waste of time and money. They argue that the N100m paid for the forms have simply gone to waste since both pastors do not stand a chance in the forthcoming 2023 Presidential Elections.
