After eight years, Polish football star Robert Lewandowski has decided to leave Bayern Munich.
The 33-year-old striker, who joined Bayern Munich in 2014 from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer and has won the Bundesliga title every year since then, as well as the Champions League, has made it clear he has no interest in staying on at the German side for another season.
The announcement came at the end of the Bundesliga season amid reports that Barcelona is trying to sign him. Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer has insisted they would not let him leave before his contract expires in summer 2023, but he has persuaded them to grant his wish.
Speaking in an interview, the footballer stated, “My story at Bayern is over. After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good cooperation”.
“Bayern is a serious club and I hope they will not keep me just because they can. A transfer is the best solution for all parties,” he added.
