After a sensational six-week-long trial, the Johnny Depp defamation case has come to an end.
Depp sued Amber Heard for defamation over a 2018 Washington Post article she wrote about the alleged domestic violence she suffered, although she did not name her ex-husband.
58-year-old Depp sued Heard, 36, for $50 million over the defamation. In return, Heard countersued for $100 million, saying she was defamed by a statement made by Depp’s lawyer and accused him of physical and sexual abuse.
The seven-member jury in Virginia rewarded the 58-year-old actor $15 million in damages after discovering that the 2018 article written by Heard on her ordeal of sexual violence was defamatory to Depp.
The jury agreed that Heard was defamed by those statements, and also awarded her damages — but at a significantly lower amount, $2 million.
Depp took to Instagram to post that the Jury had given him back his life and Heard said she was disappointed with the outcome of the trial as it was a setback against women.
