Reactions as FireBoy Makes History at the BET Awards Ceremony


Nigerian singer Fireboy has broken a new record by becoming the first Afrobeat artist to perform at the BET Awards ceremony.

Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as FireBoy DML, is a Nigerian singer signed to the Olamide’s YBNL record label. The 26-year-old singer has made a name for himself since joining the scene in 2019, winning several awards. His recent hit song ‘Peru’ has gained so much attention since its release in 2021.

The BET Awards is one that was established by Black Entertainment Television (BET) to annually celebrate African Americans in music, sports, and other fields of entertainment. The awards ceremony for 2022 was held on the 26th of June at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Fireboy gave a historical performance on the BET stage making it the first time an Afrobeat artist would achieve this feat. The Nigerian singer performed his hits songs ‘Peru’ and ‘Playboy’, which has since got the online community talking.
