Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage at his comedy show on May 3rd and just opened up on his attack.
The confrontation occurred during his “Chappelle May 3” set when a man in the audience rushed to the stage and tackled the comedian to the ground.
Recounting the experience, Dave Chappelle shared that he could not see his attacker’s face during the attack but he grabbed a hold of his hair. When it was over, Chappelle said his son pulled him over for a hug and told him that he loves him.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the attack and said that the attacker was indeed armed with a replica gun and he has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Speaking with the attacker, Isaiah Lee, Chappelle revealed that the man said the attack was meant to draw attention to gentrification after his grandmother was recently evicted from her neighborhood per the outlet.
