Boko Haram Suspects Escaped Kuje Prison, President Buhari Expresses Disappointment

Boko Haram suspects who were being held at Kuje Prison have escaped alongside other prisoners who broke out of the facility. President Buhari has demanded a comprehensive report of the incident.

This occurred on the same day as the attack on the President’s convoy of cars conveying the advance team of security guards, protocol, and media officers, ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Sallah trip to his hometown in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday night.

Kuje Prison in Abuja was attacked on Tuesday night by unidentified terrorists. Hundreds of inmates were reportedly freed from the cells, including about 64 Boko Haram suspects that were being held in the prison.

In a report given by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr. Abubakar Umar, he noted four inmates died and a total of 879 escaped Kuje Prison of which over 300 have been recaptured.

Boko Haram escape Kuje Prison President Buhari disappointed

While the chase for the other escaped inmates is still on, President Buhari has expressed his disappointment with the intelligence system.

The President took to his Twitter page yesterday to share a tweet that saw him puzzled at how an attack of such magnitude could be achieved by the terrorists with none of them getting caught.

The tweet read, “Saddened by the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje. I am disappointed with the intelligence system. How can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it? I am expecting a comprehensive report on this shocking incident”

The President has furiously demanded that a comprehensive report be presented to him.
