Actor Uche Maduagwu Arrested For Being Gay, Laments Over Mistreatment


Controversial Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu has revealed that he was arrested and beaten by security operatives for coming out as gay.

The actor and media personality who is in his 30s came out after seeing the death sentence given to a man who came out as gay in Bauchi. Uche Maduagwu revealed on his Instagram page on Tuesday 5th of July that he was born gay and would forever be gay.

Barely hours later, the actor shared once again that he was arrested by security operatives after revealing he was a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender(LGBT) community. This was revealed in an Instagram post on the 6th of July.

Uche Maduagwu proceeded to demand that President Joe Biden of the United States sanctions the Nigerian President Buhari for the Sharia judgment passed on the gay man in Bauchi state.

The caption read, “I was arrested this afternoon by security personnel because o came out as gay and for telling President Joe Biden to sanction Buhari over Bauchi undemocratic Sharia judgment on LGBT”

The actor also revealed that he had been released and would be leading a protest if the government does not put an end to the ongoing ASUU strike.

Recall that members of the LGBT in the country face serious challenges from the law and society. LGBT practice is illegal in Nigeria and punishable by up to 14 years of prison in the conventional court system.
